Create a finance category

Set up income and expense categories so the money you log in the Finance app groups into meaningful totals.

Once Minh starts logging rent, supply runs, and the odd bit of side income, his money log fills up fast. Categories are the labels that make sense of it — all the rent under one heading, all the supply costs under another. Each category is tied to one direction of money: an expense (money out) or an income (money in). This guide creates one of each for Cà Phê Sài Gòn.

Before you start

  • You’re signed in to the dashboard at client.prods1.bana.com.vn as the owner.
  • You only need to create each category once, then reuse it on every voucher — a single income or expense entry you record in the Finance app — so it’s worth setting up your common ones up front.

Create your categories

Open the Categories screen

Open Finance from the dashboard, then Categories — the screen that organizes your income and expenses into categories. (These are finance categories, separate from the product categories on your menu.) The list starts empty. Select Create.

Create an expense category

Give the category a Name — here, Rent. Set Voucher Type to Expense, since rent is money going out. Leave Status as Activated so it’s ready to use. Select Save.

Create an income category

Select Create again. Name this one Other income, and set Voucher Type to Income — for money coming in that didn’t go through the till, like a supplier rebate. Leave Status as Activated, then Save.

Tip: Repeat for every recurring cost — Supplies, Utilities — so each kind of money has its own heading.

Verify in the category list

Both categories now appear in the list, each with a colored badge showing its Voucher Type. They’re ready to pick whenever you record a voucher.

What you created

Your Finance app now has two categories to group money by:

CategoryVoucher TypeStatus
RentExpenseActivated
Other incomeIncomeActivated

Open Finance > Categories to see them both, each tagged with its type and ready to use.

What’s next

You’re all set — your totals will now add up by category, not just one big pile.

Open the Categories screen

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an Income and an Expense category?

It sets which way the money flows. An Expense category groups money going out, like rent. An Income category groups money coming in that didn't go through the till. You pick one Voucher Type per category.

How many categories do I need?

Just enough to make your totals useful. Start with the costs you pay every month — rent, supplies, utilities — and add more as new kinds of spending or income come up.

Can I change a category later?

Yes. Open the category from the list and edit its name or status. You can deactivate one you no longer use without deleting its history.
